Wisconsin has quietly reached the NCAA tournament a total of 6 times in the last 7 seasons under head coach Greg Gard. He is also now entering his eleventh season as the head coach of the program, and he's only missed the tournament twice in his tenure. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #17 WASHINGTON HUSKIES
Washington had a disappointing first season in year one of the Danny Sprinkle era. The Huskies finished with a 13-18 record overall and had a 4-16 record in Big Ten play, which was last in the conference. Washington hired Sprinkle from Utah State, where he was for only one season and had a 28-7 record, making the NCAA tournament. USC did not have a very successful season in its first year as a member of the Big Ten conference. They finished with a 17-18 record with a 7-13 record in conference play. Last season was also Eric Musselman's first season as the program's head coach. He left Arkansas to take the USC job after five seasons there. UCLA enjoyed a pretty successful season in its first year as a member of the Big Ten conference. They were a 7-seed in the NCAA tournament and won their first-round matchup against Utah State by 25 points before a second-round loss to Tennessee. Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell might be more on the hot seat than any other Big Ten coach. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #13 PURDUE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue enters this season seeking its 6th straight NCAA tournament appearance. Head coach Matt Painter's squad has also made the tournament in 10 of the last 11 seasons. Penn State hasn't found much success yet under third-year head coach Mike Rhoades. They hired Rhoades from VCU after the previous head coach, Micah Shrewsberry, left Penn State to take the Notre Dame job. Rhoades was coming off an extremely successful season at VCU, where they finished 27-8 and reached the NCAA tournament. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #11 OREGON DUCKS
Oregon had a very nice first season as a member of the Big Ten conference. They finished with a 25-10 record overall, with a 12-8 record in conference play, which was 8th in the Big Ten. They were a five-seed in the NCAA tournament, losing in the second round to Arizona. Dana Altman is now entering his 15th season as Oregon's head coach. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #10 OHIO STATE BUCKEYES
Ohio State enters this season having missed three consecutive NCAA tournaments. Last season, Jake Diebler took over as the full-time head coach after Chris Holtmann was fired midway through the 2023-24 season. Dieber was the interim head coach after Holtmann was fired two seasons ago. It wasn't a terrible first season for him. Ohio State went 17-15 and finished 10th in the conference. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #9 NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS
After back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, Chris Collins and Northwestern had a down year last season, finishing 17-16 and missing the NCAA tournament. When they were fully healthy, Northwestern was a good team, but Brooks Barnhizer and Jalen Leach both suffered season-ending injuries in the second half of last season. Nebraska didn't reach the NCAA tournament last year, but they did win the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament. Nebraska finished last season with a 21-14 record. BIG TEN TEAM PREVIEW #7 MINNESOTA GOPHERS
Minnesota is another Big Ten program with a new head coach for this upcoming season. They fired Ben Johnson after just four seasons at the helm. Johnson failed to reach the NCAA tournament in each season as the head coach, while having a 56-71 record over his tenure. Dusty May had one of the best seasons of any head coach in college basketball last year. In just his first year as the head coach, Michigan finished with a 27-10 record, won a Big Ten tournament title, and made it to the Sweet Sixteen. It doesn't get talked about enough that Michigan State has made the NCAA tournament in 27 consecutive seasons. It's the longest active streak in college basketball. After 15 seasons as the head coach, Iowa dismissed Fran McCaffery at the conclusion of last season. Iowa was coming off a 17-16 season, and they also hadn't made the tournament in back-to-back seasons. The replacement was one of the biggest names in last season's coaching carousel, Ben McCollum. Indiana will be on it's third head coach since the 2021 season after they fired Mike Woodson and hired Darian DeVries. DeVries left the university of West Virginia to take the Indiana job. Villanova will have a new head coach in 2025 after they fired Kyle Neptune after three unsuccessful seasons.
